Yesterday's release of Microsoft's SQL Server 2012 brought with it integration with business intelligence (BI) solution provider Panorama's socially enabled BI solution, Necto.

Metadata Access

Panorama said SQL Server 2012, codenamed Denali, is designed to work with metadata that is "...people oriented and relates to actionable intelligence. As the metadata grows, so does the enterprise’s number of Necto workboards, which are combined into the platform’s relevancy engine." The Necto engine sorts through hundreds of workboards to present a cross-departmental look at data that's both "relevant and manageable," the group said.

To gain the full power of SQL Server 2012, the technology supports both MDX (multi dimensional expression query language) and DAX (data analysis expression) languages, and it can handle the combination of both organizational online analytical processing (OLAP data) and in-memory user data with "seamless migrations." Panorama Software is the original developer of the OLAP technology acquired by Microsoft in 1996 and integrated into the SQL Server platform. It has been a strategic Microsoft partner since then.

Necto is used as a connection point by complex enterprises with multiple data sources to help build web-based workboards that deliver "broader insights" into the data. By condensing the data from multiple data streams into one common connection point, enterprises will be able to develop actionable intelligence faster, made viewable in a web-based workboard.

The solution is endorsed by Microsoft's Claude Lorenson, Director of SQL Server Marketing:

Panorama continues to offer significant added value to Microsoft products. Necto, using the power of SQL Server 2012 gives enterprises a solution that enables the seamless combination of data from multiple sources, including the cloud, applications, flat files, financial reporting, and several others. And the self-service workboard means this combined data can be quickly turned into actionable intelligence.”

BI on Tablets

Back in October 2011, Panorama announced Necto BI 3.0 availability for tablet PCs including Windows- based tablet PCs to enhance the "access to data anywhere" messaging. The Necto comprehensive suite includes Analytics, Smart Reporting, Workboards, Social Decision Making, Visuals, Search and an Intelligent BI Engine, all with seamless integration to Microsoft SharePoint.  Panorama said the new Necto solution supporting SQL Server 2012 is available for download and beta testing now.
