It’s been busy enough this week, especially with the CODiE awards where SpringCM has a lot to shout about, while DocuLex has upgraded Archive Studio, eFileCabinet has entered a new partnership and Gartner has identified what it considers the coolest content management vendors on the planet.

DocuLex Upgrades Archive Studio

This week, DocuLex announced the V5.3 release of Archive Studio Image Capture component Goby Capture that enables automated document imaging and indexing for document management and workflow collaboration.

The upgrade provides automation of document processing and field-specific indexing based upon new technologies in text recognition.

Goby Capture incorporates intelligent detection of individual documents, eliminating the need for additional document break cover pages. In addition, advanced OCR processing features were added for increased speed, accuracy and error handling.

It also offers an ODBC connection to line-of-business applications for pulling existing metadata from an organization’s existing database.

DocuLex has also added custom XML recognition for use with third-party MFP touch panel devices and network scanner applications.

The bottom line is that it provides simplified paper document conversion and electronic document file capture by automating image processing functions at the document server. Distributed capture capability is provided for an unlimited number of users throughout an organization.

Gartner's Cool Vendors in Content Management

Also over the week we took a look at Gartner’s list of Cool Vendors in Content Management. Just to be clear about this, the Cool Vendors list does not include those vendors that made into Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for Enterprise CMS, which we had all kinds of fun with late last year and which we are looking forward to again this year.

Gartner does not provide a generic definition of "Coolness," or tell companies how to be cool in the content management space.

Instead, it has taken a number of vendors -- in this case, four -- and outlined why it finds those vendors particularly cool within the overall context of content management at the moment.

SpringCM Wins Document Management CODiE

We don’t like anyone gloating, but in this case we’ll make an exception: SpringCM has won the SIIA CODiE Award in the Best Document Management Solution category.

We’re not going to comment on the award here, but Spring recently introduced SpringCM Mobile, a mobile content app available for iPad, iPhone and Android, which is putting mobile document management in the hands of workers who spend their lives on the road.

The app enables business users to securely share content and work together  from virtually any mobile device. SpringCM also introduced Open Cloud Connector earlier in the year. Again, we’re not pushing anything here, but it did win one of the top document management awards, and it looks like it wasn’t even trying.

eFileCabinet Partners with RightSignature

eFileCabinet has also been busy. This week it announced a partnership with RightSignature, which provides digital signatures across the suite of eFileCabinet products. This allows users to collect signatures via the Web.

eFileCabinet's eSignature is powered by RightSignature and enables businesses to send documents for signature online.

Benefits include automatic document management of collected signatures, digital signatures captured on a computer, iPad or any smart phone, legally binding electronic signature capability with bank-level security, dashboard to check status of signatures, time-saving templates, and integration with workflow and software applications.

ABBYY and FileBound

Finally this week, ABBYY, which offers data capture and linguistic technologies and professional services, has teamed with FileBound Document Management  to enhance its document recognition capabilities.

From here on in, embedded into every license, ABBYY FineReader Engine 10 enables FileBound users to convert paper documents of all types into digital formats that can be searched and managed.

The combined solution simplifies document and forms processing in industries where distributed access to accurate information and data is critical, such as healthcare.

FineReader Engine 10 is a Software Development Kit (SDK) that enables application and software developers to integrate core document recognition technologies into their solutions. Included within the SDK are easy-to-use tools for creating templates of fixed forms.
