It’s been a busy week in document management. Embedded translation comes to SharePoint from Lingotek, Google Docs looks like it might be getting cloud printing, Adobe finally releases Acrobat X and SpringCM offers more business automation for enterprises.

Lingotek Translates Inside SharePoint

Since the release of SharePoint 2010 in May, all kinds of third party applications have been developed to improve the experience. The recent release of Lingotek, inside based on Lingotek’s (news, site) Collaborative Translation Platform, is one more example. The program can be embedded directly into SharePoint using a new set of APIs enabling SharePoint users translate their content.

This really seems like a smart thing to develop. Just think of all the multinational companies using SharePoint and how useful embedded translation will be for them.

Language translation hasn’t been easy with SharePoint to date, but this new solution offers access to secure, accurate and up-to-date translated content, allowing people to collaborate and communicate with colleagues, customers, partners and prospects around the world without barriers.

ClearPeople DM for SharePoint

Meanwhile, ClearPeople (news, site), which provides SharePoint document management software for law firms, has just announced that they have tailored their SharePoint DM solution for the corporate legal sector.

By integrating ClearPeople’s MacroView DMF with SharePoint, users can manage documents in approval and compliance processes directly from within the Microsoft Office applications they use every day.

MacroView DMF gives users the ability to browse documents in SharePoint libraries using interfaces they will be familiar with. The latest version, MacroView DMF 6.6 was released in September 2009 and has added a number of improvements to the functionality and ease of use.

ClearPeople’s release is betting that since most mid-size and large corporations already have a SharePoint strategy, they'll be willing to buy into ClearPeople’s software as the combined solution will cost typically much less than competing systems. Check out the website for more details.

Will Google Docs Get Cloud Printing?

There have also been some interesting developments with Google Docs. According to the unofficial Google website, Google Operating System, which took a peak into the source code behind Google Docs, users will soon be able to access third party applications, cloud printers and sync with devices.

Cloud printing, the website says, is a project that will enable applications on any device to print documents using cloud print services. Apps no longer rely on the local operating system (and drivers) to print. Instead, apps (whether they be a native desktop/mobile app or a web app) use Google Cloud Print to submit and manage print jobs.

The other interesting element of this is the likelihood of new sync services. While Google already offers some APIs for uploading and downloading files they're limited to documents, spreadsheets and presentations, if you don't use Google Apps Premier Edition. Print will be implemented in Google Chrome and Google Chrome OS, so it could well launch in the coming weeks. If you want to find our more go to the Google Operating System website.

Acrobat X Released

You might recall a few weeks ago that we said Adobe (news, site) would be releasing Adobe X, new software that enables users to place multiple content types into PDF documents that can be accessed by enterprise users from anywhere. Well it seems that it has now been officially released.

There are many things to recommend in this release, including an offer of new guided Actions to simplify multi-step document preparation and publishing processes and completely new customization capabilities in PDF Portfolios to unify multiple file types into presentations.

It also has a strong focus on collaboration through the new document services available at Acrobat.com, while integration with SharePoint ensures PDF document consistency across the enterprise.

Two versions of Acrobat X have been released with the Acrobat X Suite expected by the end of the month. Acrobat X Standard cost you US$ 299 standalone or US$ 139 upgrade, while Acrobat X Pro comes in at a cost of US$ 449 standalone or US$ 199 for an upgrade.

SpringCM Releases Cloud Invoice Automation

SpringCM (news, site) has just announced the latest release of its Invoice Automation solution, delivered on its cloud enterprise content management platform. SpringCM's newest release makes automating invoice processing easier, faster and more affordable to implement. In addition, new reporting and analytics features will provide customers with enhanced management insight into invoice cycle times and bottlenecks, resulting in lower costs and improved financial operational efficiencies.

The new release comes with an expanded business event model to enable quick configuration of rules, such as changing a vendor and automatically updating payment terms or changing terms and automatically recalculating the due date of an invoice.

This release is just one in a series of recent product releases from SpringCM. In the past weeks, SpringCM has also announced the October 2010 release of its flagship Cloud Enterprise Content Management solution and its newest version of its Cloud Sales Contract Management solution.
